How Do I Prepare for Juvederm Injections?

As we age, our faces can sometimes bear the brunt. Over time, fine lines and wrinkles can form on the forehead, brow-line, or around the lips. If they are deep enough, other commonly used treatment options such as BOTOX may not be enough. This is where dermal fillers become a great solution to bringing a more youthful look back to your face.

Using hyaluronic acid (HA), a compound also found naturally in your body, Juvederm can bring fullness back to these stubborn areas, creating tighter-looking skin and smoothing the wrinkles and fine lines. The HA works by drawing in water from surrounding tissue to add volume to the areas where it was injected.

There is little to no downtime or recovery, and the treatment sessions take around 15 minutes. There are also little to no risks associated with the injections, with the only common side effect being minor bruising.

Despite the ease of this treatment option, there are a few things you can do to prepare for your treatment sessions. Cold compresses and ice before the treatment sessions can help reduce any potential bruising by constricting the small blood vessels in the face. Arnica Montana is a natural supplement, when taken before the treatment may also help reduce visible bruising.

Talk to your doctor about all medications you are taking especially those that thin blood, such as aspirin or warfarin. Refraining from taking any over-the-counter anti-inflammatory medicines such as Ibuprofen or Naproxen will also help reduce bruising.

After your appointment, while it’s not required to change, or restrict your lifestyle or activity, you should refrain from touching or massaging the injection areas for the first 24 hours. For the next few weeks after your treatments, it will also be helpful to wear plenty of sunscreens and avoid exposure to extreme hot or cold temperatures.
