What Is BOTOX® Cosmetic?
BOTOX® Cosmetic was first approved by the FDA in 2002 to treat deep fine lines and wrinkles such as frown lines, crows feet, and forehead lines. However, it has also been beneficial in treating other medical issues, such as excessive sweating, migraines, jaw pain, and more.
The main ingredient in BOTOX® Cosmetic, and all other forms of wrinkle treatment–including DAXXIFY–is botulinum toxin A. Although, this ingredient requires a protein to keep it stabilized for use. BOTOX® utilizes human serum albumin (HSA), which is a human-derived protein.
HSA blocks nerve impulses, which weaken the muscles responsible for creating fine lines and wrinkles. With these muscles temporarily inhibited, fine lines and wrinkles are reduced or even eliminated. Results from BOTOX® lasts approximately three to four months and may require up to four injections per year to maintain results.
How Does DAXXIFY™ Differ?
DAXXIFY™ was recently approved by the FDA in 2022 to treat moderate to severe fine lines, specifically between the brows. So far, it has been found to be the only long-lasting frown line treatment on the market. It lasts up to six to nine months and only requires up to two treatments per year to maintain the results.
The biggest difference between DAXXIFY™ and BOTOX® Cosmetic is the ingredients. Just like all other wrinkle and fine-line treatments, DAXXIFY™ uses HSA. Their stabilizer, however, is a peptide instead of a protein. So are no human or animal byproducts used in the production of this product.
